Dark Math Games, a studio comprising former developers behind the acclaimed title Disco Elysium, has officially unveiled a new name for their highly anticipated spiritual successor. Previously known as “XXX Nightshift,” a title that inadvertently suggested adult-oriented content rather than its true genre, the game will now be recognized as Tangerine Antarctic. This rebranding aims to more accurately reflect its identity as a sophisticated detective role-playing game.
The changes extend beyond just the game`s title. Dark Math Games has also announced a significant shift in gameplay perspective, moving away from the previously planned isometric view to a more immersive third-person experience. The newly adopted name, Tangerine Antarctic, is directly tied to the game`s setting: an exclusive, remote hotel located in the stark Antarctic region. This isolated establishment is poised to become the central stage for a chilling murder mystery, unfolding amidst the harsh conditions of a relentless blizzard.
Designed as a single-player journey, Tangerine Antarctic places a strong emphasis on player choice, with the narrative dynamically adapting and evolving based on decisions made throughout the game. Players are invited to approach the murder investigation at their own pace, meticulously gathering clues and identifying suspects. A notable feature is the option to select a partner, whose unique skills and perspectives will unlock different avenues for investigation, ensuring a multifaceted approach to solving the complex mystery.
To further assist in their detective work, players will gain access to a specialized “maboul kit.” This intriguing tool is described as being instrumental in preparing for crucial interactions such as interrogations, confrontations, and even moments of seduction. However, the developers hint at a deeper layer of consequence, cautioning about potential “side effects” and emphasizing that “there`s always a price to pay” for leveraging the kit`s advantages.
Tangerine Antarctic is currently available for wishlisting on Steam for PC. As of now, a definitive release date for the game has not yet been announced.
