Square Enix, the developer behind the popular MMORPG Final Fantasy 14, has announced that official support for the game on Windows 10 will cease on October 14. This decision coincides with Microsoft`s own plans to conclude support for its long-standing operating system. Despite this, Square Enix has indicated that players will “likely” still be able to access and play the game after the specified date.
In a statement, Square Enix addressed the challenges of maintaining ongoing support for this particular operating system. They clarified, “Players will likely still be able to enjoy Final Fantasy 14 on Windows 10 systems even after support concludes. However, once support is withdrawn, we will, as a general rule, no longer be able to offer assistance for problems stemming directly from the operating system.”
The publisher also noted that requests for technical support might still be addressed on a case-by-case basis. Final Fantasy 14 initially launched on PC in 2013, a period when Microsoft`s Windows 8 was still relatively new. Given its extensive lifespan, the game has received numerous updates for various Windows OS versions since its debut, and its recent Dawntrail expansion further enhanced the game with a significant graphical overhaul.
Widely regarded as one of the finest MMORPGs ever created, Final Fantasy 14 was successfully ported to Xbox Series X|S last year. The overwhelmingly positive reception has encouraged Square Enix to adopt a multiplatform release strategy, forming part of a broader company-wide restructuring initiative set to unfold over the next three years.
Meanwhile, Square Enix`s other well-known Final Fantasy MMORPG, Final Fantasy 11, continues to thrive. It maintains a substantial player base and receives a consistent series of new updates throughout the year, demonstrating its enduring popularity.
