Veteran horror film producer Gary Dauberman has revealed that his production company has acquired the movie adaptation rights for the 2021 psychological horror game The Medium, developed by the acclaimed Polish studio Bloober Team.
Specifically, Dauberman`s Coin Operated production company secured these rights, with Dauberman himself slated to produce the film. While the project is still in its nascent stages, The Hollywood Reporter indicates that a search for a suitable writer and director is already underway. Casting details may emerge as the film progresses through its developmental phases.
Dauberman`s impressive portfolio includes his involvement in Sony`s Until Dawn movie, alongside popular horror franchises like Stephen King`s It, Annabelle, and The Nun.
Piotr Babieno, CEO of Bloober Team, expressed his confidence in the partnership, stating: “Adapting games into films often involves balancing many interests, but with The Medium, I have a deep sense that Gary is the perfect partner for us.”
Babieno further elaborated that he felt a “complete synergy” with Dauberman while discussing their shared vision for the cinematic adaptation. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The game itself received a commendable 9/10 score in GameSpot`s review. The Medium puts players in the shoes of Marianne, a clairvoyant with the unique ability to communicate with spirits and guide them to the afterlife. A distinctive feature of the gameplay involves navigating simultaneously between two distinct planes of existence: the tangible real world and the ethereal spirit world.
It`s crucial to understand that Bloober Team has merely sold the film rights to Coin Operated. There is no absolute guarantee that the movie will ultimately be produced, and it joins a growing list of dozens of other video game adaptations that have been announced but may never see the light of day.
