FBC: Firebreak to Receive Major Update Addressing Player Feedback

FBC: Firebreak, the latest title from Remedy Entertainment, was released approximately a month ago but has encountered challenges with player retention. Despite its availability across major platforms including Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5, the game`s concurrent player count peaked at a modest 1,992 on launch day and has since consistently dropped to an average of fewer than 100 players.

In a recent blog post, Remedy acknowledged a significant factor contributing to this decline: the game`s initial “frustrating” experience. Many players reported abandoning the game within its first hour, feeling ineffective and disoriented. The studio candidly stated that this critical onboarding phase requires substantial improvement.

To remedy this, Firebreak`s upcoming September update is set to introduce several enhancements to the narrative onboarding process. These include an introductory video and more detailed pop-up tips within the tutorial, designed to help players grasp their role and objectives more clearly within the Firebreak universe.

From a gameplay perspective, Remedy aims to achieve a better balance between traditional first-person shooter mechanics and the innovative use of Crisis Kit tools, empowering players with greater control over their character`s progression. This will manifest through the addition of three new heavy weapons and the implementation of a comprehensive Mod System. This new system will replace the current “generic” equipment upgrades, allowing players to deeply customize their weapon functionalities.

Further enhancements on the horizon involve refinements to the “Jobs” system and the introduction of more dynamic mission objectives. The developers have also promised a new handcrafted level, three distinct new Zones, a fresh status effect, and two additional enemy types, alongside other new content typically associated with major game updates.

Remedy emphasized that while these plans are subject to potential adjustments, the studio anticipates that this first major update will bring substantial improvements to FBC: Firebreak. Despite a launch that fell short of expectations, the developers reaffirm their full dedication to continuously developing and refining their cooperative shooter experience.
