Exciting Updates on Sony Santa Monica’s Next Major Title

Exciting news has emerged regarding the next project from God of War director Cory Barlog and the renowned developer Sony Santa Monica. Insider Jason Schreier reports that Barlog`s unannounced title is considered the studio`s primary focus, with development progressing smoothly.

Details about the game remain scarce. While speculation suggested it could be a completely new intellectual property, Schreier refuted this, clarifying that “It’s not a new IP but it might feel like one, which perhaps contributes to the confusion.” He further dismissed rumors of a science-fiction theme as “nonsense.”

Schreier also referenced Resetera forum member Ashhong, stating that their information is reliable. Ashhong had previously revealed that Barlog`s upcoming game would not be based on an existing license.

Sony Santa Monica`s most recent release was God of War Ragnarok in 2022, where Barlog served as creative director, following his directorship of the 2018 God of War installment. The studio consciously decided against a third game in the Norse saga to prevent the narrative from becoming overly extended.

Following Ragnarok`s launch, Barlog indicated that Sony Santa Monica was engaged in “a lot of different things,” hinting at the possibility of multiple projects in development. Notably, in 2021, reports surfaced about the studio`s work on an open-world sci-fi IP, which was later rumored to be canceled.

Currently, Sony Santa Monica is actively recruiting for various positions to bolster the development of a “new unannounced title,” though these job postings offer minimal specific details about the game`s nature.
