Filmmaker Alex Garland is reportedly in discussions to reunite with actress Cailee Spaeny for the upcoming Elden Ring film adaptation. The specific role Spaeny might portray in the movie remains undisclosed at this time.
The news of Spaeny`s potential involvement comes from industry reporter Jeff Sneider, as highlighted by Eurogamer. This would not be the first collaboration between Spaeny and Garland, who previously worked together on the television series `Devs` and the recent feature film `Civil War`. Spaeny has garnered significant attention for her leading role as Rain in `Alien: Romulus`, and her breakout performance is often attributed to 2018`s `Pacific Rim: Uprising`.
The Elden Ring movie adaptation was officially announced in May, with Alex Garland confirmed to both direct and write the screenplay. Garland`s notable past projects where he served in both capacities include `Ex Machina,` `Annihilation,` and the aforementioned `Civil War`. His connection to the gaming world is also well-established; he co-wrote `Enslaved: Odyssey to the West` and contributed to the narrative of 2013`s `DmC`. Garland`s personal enthusiasm for Elden Ring is evident, as he recently shared that he had completed his seventh playthrough of the critically acclaimed game.
Additionally, actor Kit Connor is rumored to be a potential cast member for the Elden Ring film. This would mark another reunion for Garland, as the two previously collaborated on last year`s `Warfare`.
The original Elden Ring game was honored as GameSpot`s Game of the Year in 2022. The title is expected to make its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. Its popular `Shadow of the Erdtree` expansion recently surpassed 10 million copies shipped globally, and the co-op spin-off, `Elden Ring Nightreign`, has also achieved considerable success, with 5 million units sold.
