Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake Gets A Free Switch 2 Upgrade

During the recent Nintendo Partner Direct, Square Enix unveiled a significant development, albeit exclusively in the Japanese broadcast: the highly anticipated Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is set to receive a complimentary upgrade for the Nintendo Switch 2. While not a complete overhaul, this update promises noticeable improvements to the game`s presentation.

As detailed in an official FAQ, the upgrade primarily focuses on enhancing the visuals, offering `graphical improvements which make the game appear sharper and smoother.` Additionally, players will gain `additional options which allow them to prioritize either frame rate or graphical fidelity.` Square Enix confirmed that the game’s narrative and item progression will remain untouched, underscoring that the update is purely aimed at optimizing performance and visual appeal on the new console. This enhancement is available immediately.

The Direct also featured a new trailer for Dragon Quest 1+2 HD Remake, despite its release date having been announced back in May. Interestingly, this title, which will be available on both the original Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2, will not provide a free upgrade path for owners of the first Switch. Players will need to consider whether to purchase the game now or wait until they acquire a Switch 2 to experience its optimized version.

Furthermore, Square Enix used this Direct to introduce two other new titles: The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, an all-new HD-2D action-RPG, and Octopath Traveler 0. The latter is described as a fresh take or reimagining of the existing mobile game, Champions of the Continent, bringing a new entry to the popular series.
