In 2009, Sucker Punch`s Infamous offered players a unique experience of life with superpowers, moving beyond traditional comic-book narratives. Despite no new entries in the series since Infamous: Second Son in 2014, Nate Fox, who directed all three titles, expressed a strong desire to revisit the Infamous universe. However, this is not feasible in the near future, as Sucker Punch is currently dedicated to Ghost of Yotei, the upcoming sequel to Ghost of Tsushima.
“I would absolutely love to work on more Infamous,” Fox shared with Game Informer, also expressing a wish for a trilogy re-release. “However, Sucker Punch operates on a `one game at a time` principle, and our current priority is the completion of Ghost of Yotei.”
Fox co-directed Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost of Yotei alongside Jason Connell, meaning Sucker Punch has been continuously engaged with these major projects for several years. Among the initial three Infamous titles, only Second Son is available on PS4. The first two Infamous games, being PS3 exclusives, are strong contenders for modern remasters should the franchise ever see a revival.
In a 2022 blog post, Sucker Punch stated that they had no immediate plans to revisit either Infamous or their other beloved franchise, Sly Cooper. Interestingly, Ghost of Tsushima still featured Easter eggs referencing both of Sucker Punch`s earlier game series.
When questioned about Infamous`s future in 2015, PlayStation`s head, Scott Rohde, affirmed, “We`re never going to retire an IP. We`re always going to be open to [making more Infamous games].” Yet, in the nearly decade since that statement, the most recent appearances of Infamous have been limited to Easter eggs, such as those found in Astro Bot, released in 2024.
