World of Warcraft`s upcoming player housing system will allow players to improve their homes through special neighborhood events known as Endeavors. These events will not only visually alter the appearance of neighborhoods but also provide unique, temporary decorations.
Blizzard shared these new details about the highly anticipated housing system in a recent blog post. Following earlier announcements about homes being available in public or private neighborhoods, more information has been provided on the system`s mechanics.
Endeavors are a core feature of WoW`s neighborhoods. These community-wide events will happen approximately once a month, transforming the neighborhood visually to reflect various Azerothian cultures or factions. Each Endeavor presents tasks for residents to complete, such as quests, crafting, or dungeon runs. When the neighborhood collectively finishes enough tasks, everyone receives rewards.
Completing Endeavor tasks yields two main rewards: a special currency for buying themed decorations from visiting NPCs, and Neighborhood Favor. Neighborhood Favor acts like housing XP, progressing a system similar to the game`s Renown track. Higher housing levels unlock new decorations and may increase limits, such as the maximum number of items a player can place.
Blizzard stated that Endeavors aim to provide shared objectives for neighborhoods, allow customization of neighborhood appearance, and create variety since not all neighborhoods will tackle the same events simultaneously. Players in public neighborhoods will have Endeavors assigned, while private neighborhood members can select from available options. This encourages visiting other neighborhoods to find unique decoration rewards.
Alongside the Endeavor announcement, Blizzard addressed common player questions, including how to relocate a home if a player is unhappy with their location or neighbors, and the level of control players will have over visitors.
Players who wish to move their home can do so easily. Blizzard designed location changes to be simple and `frictionless.` Abandoning a home saves its current layout, allowing players to `unpack` it at a new spot without needing to redecorate. Given that homes are described as customizable `magic boxes` that can vary in size, preserving the interior setup is a convenient feature.
Blizzard highlighted that neighborhoods will be substantial, featuring 50 housing plots spread across diverse biomes within a zone. Options will range from isolated plots for players preferring solitude to areas like cul-de-sacs designed to promote social interaction.
Regarding visitor permissions, players will have full control, with options to allow or deny access to friends, guildmates, neighbors, or the general public. There`s also an option to allow access only to the exterior plot, preventing entry into the house itself.
Information on Endeavors and neighborhoods adds to previously shared details about player housing, including its accessibility for all players, how it will acknowledge past achievements, and the extensive decoration options available.
The WoW housing system was initially planned for the next expansion, Midnight, but is now anticipated to arrive sooner, potentially in the expansion`s pre-patch. Blizzard plans to reveal more details about Midnight, and likely player housing, at Gamescom.
