Crop: Atmospheric Psychological Horror Farming Sim Unveiled at Triple-I Initiative

During the recent Triple-I Initiative event, 11 bit studios and Carbonara Games unveiled their newest venture: Crop, a farming game described as gritty and mysterious.

The narrative of Crop begins with players escaping the trunk of a wrecked car, thrusting them into an enigmatic world where farming is essential for survival. Cultivating and harvesting crops is crucial, offering protection from unseen threats hidden in the pervasive fog. This isn’t a typical farming simulator; instead, the land itself has chosen the protagonist, and a whole village depends on their agricultural output to endure.

The isolated town where the player awakens is cut off from civilization. Maintaining sanity and uncovering the truth of one’s predicament relies entirely on working the fields. Challenges abound; the former owner neglected the land, leaving it barren. Players must clear overgrown grass to prevent pests, craft compost, and acquire other vital resources to rejuvenate the farm. This includes adapting to the environment, like donning raincoats during storms or erecting scarecrows to deter birds.

The central mystery revolves around how and why the protagonist ended up farming in such a remote location. Players must simultaneously manage the farm’s survival and pursue this investigation. The core gameplay loop involves balancing these two objectives: successful harvests sustain the village, while each discovery uncovers fragments of the protagonist’s forgotten past.

Initially, investigating proves difficult due to the player’s unfamiliarity with the villagers and vice-versa. However, opportunities for discovery gradually emerge. A villager might, for instance, offer a bribe for exclusive access to food supplies, presenting a moral choice. Regardless of the decision, the journey to unraveling the overarching truth continues, piece by piece.

While 11 bit studios has not yet disclosed a release date for Crop, the developers anticipate approximately 15 hours of gameplay upon launch.
