XSEED Games has officially announced the launch of the Corpse Party: Tetralogy Pack for Nintendo Switch in the US, set to release on October 28. This comprehensive collection unites four chilling visual novels from the renowned Heavenly Host saga, bringing a beloved horror series to a wider audience.
About the Corpse Party: Tetralogy Pack
The Tetralogy Pack is an essential acquisition for horror enthusiasts and fans of visual novels. It includes all four remastered entries in the main storyline, marking a significant milestone for the series on Switch. Notably, this release will be the first time that both Corpse Party: Book of Shadows and Corpse Party: Sweet Sachiko’s Hysteric Birthday Bash are playable on the platform.
Each game in the collection features enhanced high-definition graphics and audio, alongside the original Japanese voice acting and English subtitles, promising an authentic and deeply immersive experience. The physical edition of the pack, containing all four visual novels on a Nintendo Switch cartridge, will be available for pre-order at $50, exclusively through Amazon. Given the infrequent physical releases for the Corpse Party series, it is anticipated that this collection will sell out quickly. Digital pre-orders will also be an available option for players.
Games Included in the Collection:
- Corpse Party (2021): The latest remake of the inaugural horror classic.
- Corpse Party: Book of Shadows (2011): An ambitious anthology that expands upon the events of the first game.
- Corpse Party: Sweet Sachiko`s Hysteric Birthday Bash (2012): A unique midquel offering a darkly humorous, yet still unsettling, take on the lore.
- Corpse Party: Blood Drive (2014): The intense and climatic conclusion to the Heavenly Host arc.
Delving into the Heavenly Host Saga
For those new to the series, Corpse Party offers a captivating world of supernatural horror visual novels, characterized by intricate branching narratives, multiple endings, and an abundance of terrifying moments and gruesome murders. The first game, Corpse Party, details a friendship ritual that goes horrifically awry. High school student Ayumi Shinozaki and her friends are inexplicably transported to an alternate, nightmarish reality within the dilapidated Heavenly Host Elementary. To escape and uncover the truth behind the unspeakable murders that transpired there, the group must brave extreme dangers, risking their very sanity.
Corpse Party: Book of Shadows, an ambitious anthology from 2011, serves as a multifaceted narrative – simultaneously a sequel, prequel, midquel, and an alternate universe story. It enriches the series` lore by providing fresh perspectives on pivotal events from the original game.
The 2012 installment, Corpse Party: Sweet Sachiko`s Hysteric Birthday Bash, is positioned as a midquel, with its events unfolding concurrently with parts of Corpse Party and Book of Shadows. It recounts the story of the ghost Sachiko Shinozaki’s murderous birthday celebration at Heavenly Host Elementary.
Concluding the Heavenly Host story arc is Corpse Party: Blood Drive, released in 2014. Set two months after Book of Shadows, this installment plunges players into a narrative steeped in black magic, apocalyptic themes, and a desperate quest to resurrect fallen comrades.
The Future of Corpse Party: Darkness Distortion
While Blood Drive provided a definitive end to the Heavenly Host storyline, the Corpse Party franchise is far from over. A spiritual successor, Corpse Party 2: Darkness Distortion, is slated for a June 2026 release. This provides fans with ample time to experience or re-experience the original four games with the new collection before diving into the next chapter.
Darkness Distortion will maintain the series` signature visual novel format, this time following three high school friends as they venture into the mysterious Amare Est Vivere Hospital to investigate a local urban legend. Pre-orders are currently open for both physical Switch and PS5 editions at $50. Additionally, a special Ayame Mercy Limited Edition is available for $80, featuring a reversible cover, a 64-page art book, an art card, an `evidence kit` containing in-game items, and a `candlelight` with a blue LED, all presented in a distinctive Amare Est Vivre Medical Kit metal outer case.
