Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Is Just The Beginning, Confirms Developer

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has quickly emerged as a strong contender for game of the year, earning widespread acclaim from both critics and players. Following such a successful debut from a new studio, the inevitable question arises: what comes next? While developer Sandfall Interactive has largely kept quiet on future projects, an interview with game director Guillaume Broche has, at the very least, confirmed that Expedition 33 will not be the sole installment in the Clair Obscur universe.

Speaking to YouTuber MrMattyPlays, Broche explicitly stated that “Clair Obscur is the franchise name. Expedition 33 is one of the stories that we want to tell in this franchise.” He added that it is still too early to reveal precise details about the concept or appearance of future titles, but reiterated that “this is not the end of the Clair Obscur franchise.”

Broche`s cautious approach is understandable, given that Expedition 33 was only released in April of this year. Considering the extensive duration of game development, and Broche`s expressed intention to keep the development team relatively small moving forward, it will likely be some time before we learn about any potential sequel. The game draws notable inspiration from the Final Fantasy series, which often adopts an anthological approach to its releases. This raises questions about whether future Clair Obscur titles will serve as direct continuations of Expedition 33`s narrative or introduce entirely new stories within the established universe.

For those who have yet to experience the game and wish to understand if it aligns with their preferences, reviewing available insights into Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 can provide a clearer picture.
