Activision is implementing significant changes to Call of Duty HQ, the unified platform for the latest games in the series. Effective today, July 29, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022) and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023) are being delisted from CoD HQ and will become available as separate downloads.
Players will need to re-download these titles, as stated by Activision. The company also clarified that older content related to MW2 and MW3 modes within CoD HQ will be removed on August 7 to free up disk space. This change will not affect operators and weapons from MW2 and MW3 used in Call of Duty: Warzone.
These steps are being taken in anticipation of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 launch later this year. It is expected that a Black Ops 7 beta will be accessible through CoD HQ.
More detailed information about Black Ops 7 will be unveiled at Gamescom in August. The game will transport players to the year 2035 and promises to be the most “mind-bending” installment in the Black Ops series. Notably, this marks the first time Activision is releasing Black Ops games in consecutive years. Treyarch and Raven Software are the primary co-developers for Black Ops 7, having also worked on 2024`s Black Ops 6.
In addition to Black Ops 7, it is anticipated that Call of Duty: Warzone will receive new updates tied to Black Ops 7. The Black Ops 7 trailer even hinted at a new Warzone map.
Black Ops 7 features Milo Ventimiglia (from “This is Us,” “Gilmore Girls”) in the lead role of David Mason. The star-studded cast also includes Kiernan Shipka (from “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”) as Emma Kagan, with Michael Rooker from “Guardians of the Galaxy” reprising his role as Mike Harper from Black Ops 2.
Black Ops 7 is set to launch later this year for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. While a Nintendo Switch 2 version has not yet been announced, Activision and Microsoft have reaffirmed their commitment to bringing Call of Duty to Nintendo consoles.
