Call Of Duty Movie: Activision Is Asking What Fans Want It To Be Based On

A live-action Call of Duty movie is currently in development at Paramount, though the project is still in its nascent stages with few concrete details available. Nevertheless, Activision is proactively seeking fan input on what they would like the film`s narrative to be based upon.

A survey distributed to members of the Recon Squad community feedback program asks fans to rank their preferred inspirations for the movie. The choices include existing game series such as Black Ops, Modern Warfare, Zombies, or a distinct alternative not tied to these sub-franchises. Additionally, Activision is curious if users would instead prefer an entirely new narrative crafted specifically for the big screen within the Call of Duty universe.

This initiative to gather fan feedback was initially brought to light by Detonated.

While final production decisions for the film won`t solely depend on fan feedback, both Activision and Paramount are clearly keen on understanding the community`s desires and incorporating valuable insights from fans.

Paramount head David Ellison, during the Call of Duty movie announcement, underscored his deep admiration for the franchise. He specifically highlighted a broad spectrum of games, ranging from the original World War II titles all the way through the popular Black Ops and Modern Warfare series.

Ellison stated, “We are approaching this film with the same disciplined, uncompromising commitment to excellence that guided our work on Top Gun: Maverick, ensuring it meets the exceptionally high standards this franchise and its fans deserve. I can promise that we are resolute in our mission to deliver a cinematic experience that honors the legacy of this one-in-a-million brand—thrilling longtime fans of Call of Duty while captivating a whole new generation.”

Activision has made multiple attempts to develop a Call of Duty movie over the years. In 2015, the company established Activision Blizzard Studios, publicly announcing ambitious plans for an entire cinematic universe centered around Call of Duty. At that time, the team mentioned charting “many years” of movies inspired by specific Call of Duty sub-brands like Modern Warfare and Black Ops, though none of these initial projects ever came to fruition. Stefano Sollima (known for Sicario: Day of the Soldado) was at one point slated to direct one of these films, with Oscar-nominated writer Scott Silver signed on to pen the script.

Interestingly, renowned Hollywood director Steven Spielberg reportedly also expressed interest in making a Call of Duty movie, but it appears he had a series of demands that Activision was ultimately unwilling to accommodate.

In related news, the next installment in the Call of Duty game series, titled Black Ops 7, is scheduled for release in November. Prior to its full launch, a multiplayer beta for Black Ops 7 will commence in early October.
