Video game adaptations for film and television have become increasingly common, with recent examples including *Fallout*, *Twisted Metal*, *Minecraft*, and *Until Dawn*. Now, Paramount and Activision have officially announced a partnership to bring the globally popular *Call of Duty* franchise to the big screen.
The agreement grants Paramount the rights to “develop, produce, and distribute a live-action feature film based on Call of Duty,” as per the official press release. While specific details such as a release date or plot elements remain under wraps, both companies emphasized their dedication to upholding the brand`s rich narrative and distinctive style, aiming to deliver an authentic and thrilling experience for both long-time fans and new audiences.

Paramount has a history with video game adaptations, dating back to *Lara Croft: Tomb Raider* starring Angelina Jolie in 2001. The studio is also currently enjoying considerable success with its *Sonic the Hedgehog* trilogy, featuring Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, and Jim Carrey.
Speculation about a *Call of Duty* movie has circulated for years, with rumors often pointing to storylines from *Black Ops* and *Modern Warfare*. Over time, various writers, including one from the critically acclaimed *Joker* film, were reportedly involved. Back in 2017, then-Activision executive Tim Kilpin stated, “frankly, if the script and the story isn`t right we won`t do it,” highlighting their commitment to quality.
Although the movie`s release timeline is not yet set, the next *Call of Duty* video game, *Black Ops 7*, is slated for release on November 14 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. It was also announced that the “Carry Forward” option for weapon and operator skins from *Black Ops 6* will not apply to *Black Ops 7*. This decision, according to a statement, reflects an acknowledgement that *Call of Duty* had “drifted from what made Call of Duty unique in the first place,” and that fan feedback “hits home, and we take it seriously.”
