Call of Duty is Reportedly Nearing Release on Nintendo Switch

Microsoft has repeatedly affirmed its commitment to bringing the blockbuster *Call of Duty* franchise to the Nintendo Switch, and new reports suggest this promise is close to fruition. According to industry reporter Jez Corden, the initial Switch version of *Call of Duty* is “nearly done.”

Corden initially speculated that the game, regardless of the specific title, might launch “in a few months.” However, he later adjusted the expectation, indicating that while the release may not be immediate, it is definitively “on the way” for a potential 2026 launch. He added that the development is successfully “hitting milestones,” suggesting a smooth progression through the pipeline.

A key question remains regarding the content: will the reported Switch game be a direct port of a recent major title, such as *Black Ops 7* or *Warzone*, or will it be a completely new installment tailored specifically for Nintendo hardware?

Hardware and Legal Context

The possibility of a Switch port has long been debated. In 2022, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer acknowledged the substantial work required to adapt *Call of Duty* for the original Switch console. Since that time, Nintendo has released the more powerful Switch 2, significantly increasing the viability of high-fidelity ports.

During the 2023 legal proceedings involving the FTC and Microsoft, the company solidified its promise by signing a “binding 10-year legal agreement to bring *Call of Duty* to Nintendo players.” The agreement guarantees that titles will launch on Nintendo platforms “the same day as Xbox, with full features and content parity.”

In June 2025, a spokesperson for Activision reiterated, “We’re committed to getting the franchise on Switch,” confirming that both Microsoft and Activision are actively collaborating to make the launch happen. However, neither company has established a formal, public release window.

If a *Call of Duty* title is indeed scheduled for the Switch, an official announcement could potentially take place during the January 2026 Xbox Developer Direct event.

A Long-Awaited Return

Activision has neglected Nintendo platforms for the *Call of Duty* series for more than a decade. The last release on a Nintendo console was the port of *Call of Duty: Ghosts* for the Wii U back in 2013, highlighting the franchise`s long and complex history with Nintendo hardware.

Despite the pause in releases on Nintendo, following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision, the company has maintained commitment to other third-party platforms, continuing to launch new *Call of Duty* games on PlayStation simultaneously with the Xbox and PC versions.

Further details on the future of the franchise on Switch are pending official confirmation from Activision.
