The anticipated price and release date for Activision`s Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 have reportedly been leaked ahead of an official announcement, which is expected as early as today, August 19. According to the reputable leaker billbil-kun, the game is set to launch on Friday, November 14. The standard edition is priced at $70, while the Vault edition will cost $100.
This pricing aligns with Microsoft`s previous statements that it would not charge $80 for any games this year, despite owning and publishing the Call of Duty franchise. Nevertheless, this information is noteworthy because some speculated that Microsoft might increase prices, partly due to earlier plans for “The Outer Worlds 2” that were later reversed.
Furthermore, billbil-kun indicated that a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Black Ops 7 will not be available at launch. While Microsoft and Activision have confirmed their collaboration to bring Call of Duty to the Switch, the exact timing and method remain uncertain.
The officially announced platforms for Black Ops 7 include PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. The fact that the game supports last-generation consoles has raised questions about the continued absence of a Switch version.
In 2023, during the FTC vs. Microsoft court case, Microsoft announced a “binding 10-year legal agreement” to release Call of Duty on Nintendo platforms. This agreement stipulated that the game would launch on Nintendo “the same day as Xbox, with full features and content parity.” Activision has not released a Call of Duty title on Nintendo platforms for over a decade, with the last being a port of “Call of Duty: Ghosts” for the Wii U in 2013. Call of Duty`s relationship with Nintendo consoles has always been peculiar, and this situation merely adds another chapter to its history.
Black Ops 7 marks a significant first for the franchise, as it will be the first time Activision releases “Black Ops” titles in consecutive years. The game`s setting is 2035, a decade after the events of Black Ops 2`s campaign. Treyarch and Raven Software are jointly leading the development of Black Ops 7, just as they did for 2024`s Black Ops 6.
Activision is expected to reveal more details about Black Ops 7 during Gamescom Opening Night Live today. Stay tuned for further updates.
