Gearbox, the developer of Borderlands 4, has released a new gameplay trailer showcasing the Vault Hunter Amon, just weeks before the game`s launch next month. While previous previews highlighted Rafa’s diverse weaponry from his Tediore exoskeleton and Vex’s formidable Siren powers, Amon is designed as a highly adaptable frontline character. He utilizes weaponized drones to establish robust defenses or unleash devastating offensive attacks.
Like other Vault Hunters, Amon possesses three distinct Action Skills, each capable of being enhanced with Augments and Capstones. Amon’s signature Vault Hunter trait is “Forgeskill,” which allows him to activate unique abilities such as Molten Slam, Firewall, or Double-Edge by holding down the Action Skill button, depending on the currently equipped skill.
Amon`s Core Abilities:
Here’s a breakdown of how each ability functions when activated:
Molten Slam (with Onslaughter Action Skill)
- Holding the Action Skill button causes Amon to slam a Molten Forgehammer into the ground, inflicting incendiary melee damage to enemies within a broad area.
Firewall (with Scourge Action Skill)
- Holding the Action Skill button deploys a Firewall that intercepts incoming enemy projectiles. Friendly projectiles passing through it gain increased damage and speed. Any absorbed damage contributes to Vengeance if Scourge is active. Enemies near the Firewall suffer continuous incendiary status effect damage.
Double-Edge (with Crucible Action Skill)
- Holding the Action Skill button causes Amon to throw a twinned Forgeaxe. This axe deals cryo melee damage to enemies it passes through and then returns to Amon, inflicting incendiary melee damage on its return path.

Tapping the Action Skill button triggers different effects based on Amon’s chosen ability:
Onslaughter (Calamity skill tree)
- Amon overloads his Forgefist, granting him constant shield regeneration, bonus incendiary damage with firearms, and increased movement speed. A quick press of the button unleashes a rocket-powered punch at an enemy, dealing incendiary melee damage in a short-ranged cone and staggering most enemies (excluding bosses) on impact.
Scourge (Vengeance skill tree)
- Amon equips a Forgeshield that absorbs all frontal damage, converting it into Vengeance. When the Vengeance Meter is full, the Forgeshield provides damage reduction. Vengeance rapidly depletes if not recently gained. Tapping the Action Skill button launches a Forgewave, dealing cryo ordnance damage to enemies it passes through, with damage scaling based on consumed Vengeance.
Crucible (Cybernetics skill tree)
- This skill has three charges and allows Amon to ready Forge-axes. These axes can be thrown and then picked up from the ground to reduce their cooldown time. Amon can throw a Flame Axe for incendiary melee damage or a Frost Axe for cryo damage. Enemies struck by Forge-axes become “primed” and will detonate upon death or when damaged by another Forge-Skill, causing area-of-effect damage to nearby foes.
Borderlands 4 is scheduled for release on September 12 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The Nintendo Switch 2 version will follow on October 3. Gearbox aims for the game to run at “mostly around” 30 frames per second on Switch 2 and will support the Joy-Con 2 controller’s mouse mode.
