Borderlands 4 on Switch 2: Release Date Revealed, Not Far Behind Other Platforms

The highly anticipated release date for Borderlands 4 on the Nintendo Switch 2 has been unveiled, arriving sooner than many expected. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford confirmed via a social media post that while the game launches on September 12 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, the Switch 2 version will follow shortly on October 3.

Previous speculation suggested a much later release for the Switch 2 version, possibly extending into 2025 or even 2026. However, these concerns have now been alleviated. Gearbox and 2K Games had previously stated that the Switch 2 version would not launch concurrently with other platforms.

An episode of Nintendo`s `Creator`s Voice` series further confirmed that the Switch 2 iteration of Borderlands 4 was developed internally by Gearbox, rather than being outsourced to a third-party studio.

When you play Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2, you`ll realize that with the cooperative experience and how we can use the Nintendo Switch 2 platform to connect with friends, share our game with friends … it`s pretty astonishing how perfect this platform is for Borderlands 4.

While the Switch 2 might not match the raw computational power of the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, Pitchford lauded it as `very powerful` and `an incredible machine in a very tight form factor.` The specific graphical or performance differences between the various Borderlands 4 versions are yet to be fully detailed, but Gearbox seems confident in their optimization.

We don`t feel like we`re fighting the system. We feel like the system is enabling us and empowering us to make the best version of Borderlands 4 we can.

Borderlands 4 carries a standard price tag of $70 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC editions. Gearbox is also offering several premium editions for fans, with prices scaling up to $150 for those seeking additional content and collectibles.
