Borderlands 4 Devs Aren’t Planning To Nerf Your Favorite Busted Build Yet

In Borderlands 4, where significant importance is placed on crafting unique Vault Hunters, players have discovered numerous ways to assemble extremely powerful skill and gear combinations. This has sparked concerns within the community about potential nerfs to such builds, specifically mentioning the witch-like Siren Vex, who is capable of inflicting incredible damage. However, developer Gearbox has assured players that they will not make hasty decisions regarding user-created builds unless they threaten the game`s overall stability.

“Relax, guys, we`re not going to knee-jerk react to anything,” Borderlands 4 Creative Director Graeme Timmins wrote on the social media platform X/Twitter. His comment was a response to a video demonstrating how Vex could instantly eliminate a boss using correctly chosen gear and skills. Timmins added, “That said, this looks like a bug we fixed with Harlow and Rafa prior to launch that could recursively cause damage and actually lead to game crashes or UI freezes. We will conduct an investigation, as this could indeed be a stability problem.”

In the action-RPG genre, it`s not uncommon for players to discover character builds that deal significantly more damage than initially intended. For example, in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, players successfully used the Stendhal build to effortlessly dispatch enemies until developer Sandfall Interactive adjusted its power. Similarly, Bungie has repeatedly nerfed various Guardian builds in Destiny over the years, often to the fan base`s displeasure. The Borderlands series, however, has often deviated from this practice, where lethal combinations of weapons, gear, and skills were rarely patched. Instead, additional difficulty modes were introduced to maintain the challenge.

Borderlands 4 is currently available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Despite attracting an impressive number of concurrent players on Steam, the game has also been met with a wave of negative user reviews. Its performance on PC has been particularly heavily criticized, along with Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford`s reactions to numerous complaints.
