Borderlands 4 Day One Patch Will Help Performance, But Don’t Expect It To Run On Low-Spec Hardware

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has addressed concerns regarding Borderlands 4`s performance on PC, confirming that a day one patch is planned to deliver significant improvements. However, Pitchford cautioned players that the game is unlikely to be playable on machines that fall below the minimum system requirements.

This statement came in response to a Borderlands 4 preview written by Scott Duwe for Destructoid, which, while largely positive, highlighted performance issues encountered on PC. In a direct reply to Duwe, Pitchford conveyed, “The Day 1 patch does a lot! That said, the expectation for using a below min-spec machine should be that the game is unplayable.”

A subsequent clarification revealed a misunderstanding: Duwe was not, in fact, running the game on a system below minimum specifications, a detail later verified by 2K PR. It was also discovered that a faulty power supply unit contributed to Duwe`s technical difficulties. Following these developments, Duwe updated his preview, stating, “After working with 2K PR, I’ve worked out the majority of the worst graphical issues I was having.”

Therefore, players intending to embark on new adventures on Pandora via PC should ensure their hardware is in line with the game`s minimum specifications to guarantee an optimal experience. Gearbox has also already detailed its extensive post-launch content strategy, which includes plans for additional downloadable content (DLC), free updates, and a variety of weekly in-game events.
