Bloodborne’s Future Uncertain: Remake and PC Port Reportedly On Hold

Fans universally desire a Bloodborne remake, and a PC port is also highly anticipated. However, an industry insider suggests that no development is currently underway for either a remake or a PC version of the popular title.

Jeff Grubb, co-owner of Giant Bomb and a recognized industry news source, discussed this topic with Mike Minotti on a recent “Game Mess” podcast episode. During the September 18 livestream, they addressed various queries from the audience concerning the gaming and tech sectors, including speculation about Sony`s PC porting strategy, particularly for Bloodborne.

Minotti indicated that any progress on Bloodborne would necessitate the involvement of its original developer, FromSoftware, which is reportedly occupied with other projects. Grubb concurred, implying that FromSoftware might be disinclined to collaborate with Sony on such a project at this time.

Grubb elaborated, stating that without FromSoftware`s direct participation, a Bloodborne project is unlikely to move forward. He recently confirmed his understanding of the situation, reiterating that “nothing is happening with Bloodborne, so don`t expect that.”

Both Grubb and Minotti expressed puzzlement over why titles like the 2020 Demon`s Souls remake and the 2022 racing simulator Gran Turismo 7 haven`t been released on PC yet. Nevertheless, their primary confusion centered on the lack of movement for a Bloodborne remake, a project long demanded by its fanbase.

Bloodborne, the critically acclaimed Lovecraftian action-RPG, first launched for the PS4 a decade ago. It has remained exclusive to that platform since, with no official announcements regarding a port or remake. While its creator, Hidetaka Miyazaki, has been reserved about a potential remake, he did mention in February 2024 that newer hardware, such as the PS5, could potentially “add value” to a theoretical remake.

Despite Miyazaki`s intriguing comments about the benefits of new hardware, the prospect for a Bloodborne remake or port seems distant, given the prolonged absence of any development. Furthermore, while a former PlayStation executive speculated that Miyazaki`s current commitments might preclude a Bloodborne remake (or even a remaster or 60fps update), Sony has notably acted against fan-made patches designed to boost the game`s frame rate.

The situation suggests Bloodborne is currently stalled, with no clear path to revival. However, as is often said, “never say never.” There`s no official definitive statement ruling out future development. It`s possible Miyazaki and his team are awaiting the opportune moment, or Sony might be seeking the ideal development partner. Regardless of the current inactivity, it doesn`t preclude future progress. Patience remains key.
