Black Ops 7 Multiplayer: Minimal SBMM Confirmed for Launch

During the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 multiplayer beta, players highly praised the “open” playlists, which offered minimal or no Skill-Based Matchmaking (SBMM). Activision has now officially confirmed that this approach will be the default for Black Ops 7 multiplayer when the game launches, a decision that responds to years of player requests.

Activision`s Official Stance on Matchmaking

In a recent blog post, Activision stated: “At launch, open matchmaking with minimal skill consideration will be the default for Black Ops 7 multiplayer. Simply put, imagine the matchmaking experience of Open Moshpit from the beta, but as the standard in Black Ops 7 on day one.” The development team emphasized their goal to provide players with a more varied and enjoyable experience, an objective they believe was successfully validated during the beta phase.

The timing of Activision`s move to de-emphasize SBMM is noteworthy, as it coincides with the highly anticipated release of Battlefield 6, a direct competitor to Black Ops 7. This suggests a strategic response to market dynamics and player preferences.

Addressing Key Player Feedback

Furthermore, Activision acknowledged player feedback regarding persistent lobbies. The company confirmed that persistent lobbies will be available at launch for Black Ops 7, addressing previous frustrations where lobbies would disband after each match.

Activision also addressed criticisms concerning “rotational aim assist” in Black Ops 7. The studio reiterated its commitment to ensuring a “fair and competitive balance” across all input devices. While specific details on controller aim assist adjustments were not provided, more information is promised before Black Ops 7`s November release.

Beta Insights and Future Updates

Activision concluded by highlighting the beta`s role in collecting vital player data and feedback. They confirmed that a substantial amount of information is currently being processed to implement key improvements and updates for the game`s launch, with further details to be shared in the coming weeks.

Coinciding with the end of the Black Ops 7 multiplayer beta on October 9th, Black Ops 6 is simultaneously launching its Season 6 and a significant Halloween event. A free trial for Black Ops 6 is also being released on the same day.
