Black Myth: Wukong Update Resolves Xbox Graphics Issue

A recent update for Black Myth: Wukong has been released, specifically targeting a significant concern regarding the Xbox version`s visual performance. This patch, deployed on September 10, enhances the graphics on Xbox Series X, responding to feedback from players and experts who noted suboptimal visuals upon its initial release.

Developer Game Science confirmed that the update resolves a blurring effect observed in the Xbox Series X`s graphics. The studio identified global illumination ghosting in the game`s Quality and Balance display modes as the root cause of this visual discrepancy.

While Digital Foundry reported more pronounced technical difficulties for the Series S version of Black Myth: Wukong, the current patch notes do not include specific fixes for the Series S. Earlier rumors suggested that performance challenges on the Xbox Series S were responsible for delaying the console`s port, though Game Science, the publisher, refuted these claims. The development team has openly admitted that optimizing the game for Xbox consoles presented unforeseen complexities.

In addition to the graphical improvements, the September 10 update for Black Myth: Wukong addresses a range of crashes and errors, alongside rectifying bugs that could impede progress in certain quests. Furthermore, it resolves an unusual bug where some bosses in Mount Huaguo would “abnormally sink” under specific gameplay circumstances. The full details of these improvements are listed in the complete patch notes.

Black Myth: Wukong launched on Xbox on August 20, 2025, precisely a year after its initial release on PS5 and PC. This staggered release schedule fueled speculation about a potential timed-exclusivity agreement between Game Science and Sony.

Riding on the immense success of Black Myth: Wukong, Game Science is currently developing a sequel, titled Zhong Kui. However, this project is still in its very preliminary stages.

Detailed Patch Notes for September 10 Update:

  • Fixed an issue where the graphics appeared blurry on Xbox Series X due to global illumination ghosting in Quality and Balance modes.
  • Fixed crashes and errors occurring under certain conditions.
  • Fixed an issue where certain side quests became unprogressable or triggered errors when a dialogue was exited abnormally.
  • Fixed an issue where certain bosses in Mount Huaguo would sink abnormally when the player moved away.
  • Fixed an issue where the game responded slowly to controller input in the Text Language dropdown menu within Settings.
