A recent digital preview event for Battlefield 6`s single-player campaign offered a look at three distinct missions, showcasing a diverse range of environments and gameplay scenarios. From tank-led assaults on Gibraltar`s beaches to intense close-quarters combat in New York City, the preview delivered the core Battlefield experience: signature weaponry, authentic military visuals, and an abundance of explosions and environmental destruction.
Set in 2027, Battlefield 6`s narrative unfolds in a world where NATO has collapsed, and the private military corporation Pax Armata has seized control. Pax Armata`s relentless pursuit of power risks plunging the globe into a catastrophic war. Players join Dagger 1-3, an elite US Marine raiders unit, in their global struggle against Pax Armata across diverse locations including Gibraltar, the United States, and Tajikistan.
The first mission showcased was Operation Gladus, the third campaign mission, set in Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory. The mission commenced with a water-based arrival at Gibraltar`s beaches, which Pax Armata had occupied. The iconic Rock of Gibraltar stood prominently to the left, offering a striking vista even on lower graphical settings.
Assuming the role of an engineer inside a tank, the primary objective was to provide covering fire for fellow soldiers storming the beach. Pax Armata`s forces had established an outpost with trenches and fortifications, but the tank`s artillery effortlessly demolished their structures. Amidst heavy gunfire, explosions, and smoke, the destruction was exhilarating and precisely what one anticipates from a Battlefield game—perhaps even surpassing previous campaign installments.
After securing the outpost, the battle continued on foot through Gibraltar`s narrow city streets. Following a friendly tank closely, the task involved making repairs, as class roles are integral to the campaign, helping new players adapt to Battlefield`s class-based mechanics. The tank`s advance hinged on maintaining its operational integrity.

Equipped with an RPG and a grenade launcher, attempts to cause personal destruction were made, but the impact within the urban environment was more limited compared to the beach assault. While portions of buildings could be damaged, a full area-leveling was not achievable. However, repairing the tank just in time to witness it obliterate a massive building in half was undeniably satisfying.
The subsequent mission, “No Sleep,” tasked players with infiltrating and breaching Pax Armata`s Brooklyn Headquarters. This nighttime mission in New York City immersed players in a dark, gritty atmosphere, navigating streets and apartment buildings with a squad, utilizing night-vision goggles and a thermal-scoped rifle. Enemy encounters were frequent, leading to intense close-quarters engagements.
This mission also introduced Battlefield 6`s new sledgehammer melee weapon, enabling environmental destruction. While useful for taking out walls, doors, and even floors in multiplayer, its destructive capacity felt somewhat constrained in the story campaign. Though not possible to smash through apartment floors, the sledgehammer proved effective for destroying enemy cover, breaking down entire walls, and even completely demolishing a bathroom—an exploratory act rather than a mission requirement, yet gratifying to discover.

Following the Brooklyn HQ raid, the squad ventured underground, pursuing Pax Armata troops. This segment offered a thrilling vehicle chase, a staple of military shooter campaigns, as a hijacked vehicle was used to pursue enemies fleeing on a train through an old New York subway tunnel. The mission maintained a high level of tension and urgency, punctuated by intense action-movie-style moments and close-quarters combat, making “No Sleep” the standout of the three previewed missions.
Finally, Operation Ember Strike presented the most expansive and free-roaming experience, set in the vast countryside of Tajikistan. As a recon soldier, players were equipped with a sniper rifle and a lethal drone capable of locating, marking enemies, and deploying bombs to neutralize vehicles and forces.
The mission`s playable area was substantial, featuring three surface-to-air missile sites that could be destroyed in any order. While alarms at each site could be disabled to prevent reinforcements, a direct, aggressive approach was favored, overpowering defenses at each SAM site. The successful destruction of all targets culminated in one of the preview`s most impressive spectacles: the demolition of Tajikistan`s hydroelectric dam. A dramatic cutscene depicted Pax Armata`s forces being swept away by the unleashed water as they attempted to escape.
Based on this preview, Battlefield 6`s single-player campaign, while not revolutionary, delivers a well-executed modern military shooter experience. It features the Hollywood-style set pieces one would anticipate, providing significant enjoyment. The narrative elements, which could further distinguish the campaign, remain to be fully evaluated. Regardless of story specifics, the campaign promises tanks, jets, fiery explosions, over-the-top action, and the satisfying destruction characteristic of the Battlefield series. This alone generates excitement for its launch on October 10.
