Similar to numerous console first-person shooter titles, Battlefield 6 is set to include aim-assist functionality. However, the development team has stated that this assistance will be “very light.” This approach could offer a distinct experience compared to games like Call of Duty, which are often noted for their more pronounced and noticeable aim-assist features, a frequent point of contention among players.
Matthew Nickerson, a senior combat designer for Battlefield 6, revealed in an interview with WellPlayed that the developers have implemented a revised system, dubbed “Aim Assist 2.0.” He described it as an advancement over the system present in Battlefield 2042, emphasizing the use of “real-time” rendering in Battlefield 6 to enhance the precision and responsiveness of the aim-assist.
Nickerson elaborated on the improvements, stating, “We have significantly boosted consistency and overall performance. Our aim-assist implementation is intentionally subtle. We`ve opted against including rotational aim assist and have even removed the `snap zoom` feature from Battlefield 2042, as we felt it provided too much mechanical advantage. Internally, we refer to this philosophy as `humanizing aim assist.`”
He clarified that the primary objective for Battlefield 6`s aim-assist is to offer discreet support to players, ensuring that it doesn`t create a sensation of losing control over their input once activated.
“The system requires active player input to even engage,” Nickerson explained. “Our desire is for players to genuinely feel a sense of accomplishment for their in-game actions and successful eliminations, attributing their success to their own skill, rather than to an automated system or piece of code.”
Nickerson acknowledged the ongoing debate surrounding aim-assist within the FPS community. He expressed enthusiasm for their chosen solution, stating their commitment to implementing what they believe is most suitable for the Battlefield franchise.
Battlefield 6 is scheduled for release on October 10, becoming available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Additionally, a battle royale game mode is currently under development, with a potential launch date of October 28.
In related news, EA and Battlefield Studios recently provided details on the game`s cross-play functionality. Furthermore, a substantial amount of gameplay footage featuring the new “Mirak Valley” map has been released.
