Battlefield 6 will launch without support for ray tracing, as the development team has instead focused its efforts on optimizing game performance. This decision was confirmed by Christian Buhl, technical director at Ripple Effect, one of the studios contributing to Battlefield.
In a recent interview, Buhl clarified that there are no immediate plans for ray tracing to be included, either at launch or in the near future. He emphasized, “We wanted to make sure that all of our effort was focused on making the game as optimized as possible for the default settings and default users.” This strategic choice was reportedly made early in the development cycle.
Buhl`s rationale further extends to player accessibility. During the Battlefield 6 beta, a significant percentage of participants were observed playing on systems meeting or falling below the minimum recommended specifications. “Min spec is certainly one of our most important specs,” Buhl stated. “It`s super important from both a commercial and business perspective – we want as many people as possible playing the game.”
Prioritizing ray tracing would conflict with this goal of ensuring a smooth experience across a wide array of PC configurations. Buhl also addressed concerns regarding the PC version`s Secure Boot requirement, which caused issues for some beta players. While acknowledging the desire for universal playability, he explained that Secure Boot is crucial for deterring cheaters and facilitating EA`s detection mechanisms.
As the release date approaches, EA has already unveiled the official PC specifications for Battlefield 6. Additionally, recent unofficial disclosures from Battlefield Labs playtests have offered insights into the game`s expansive maps and its highly anticipated battle royale mode.
Battlefield 6 is scheduled to be released on October 10 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. Players eager to get a head start can participate in the ongoing `Road To Battlefield 6` event in Battlefield 2042 to unlock complimentary cosmetic items for the new title.
