Battlefield 6 Portal: Next-Gen Map Creation Tools Unveiled

While Battlefield 2042 introduced the Portal map creation tools to the franchise, Battlefield 6 is set to significantly enhance this feature later this year. The upcoming shooter will boast a revamped and expanded toolset, empowering players with unprecedented creative control. DICE and EA recently released a video showcasing the capabilities of this new Portal mode, offering a glimpse into what it brings to the table.

This enhanced Portal mode empowers players to design, share, and experience their personalized maps with more options than ever before. Key among the new additions is a spatial editor, built with Godot technology, enabling creators to precisely manipulate map layouts and reposition existing elements dynamically. Furthermore, Portal incorporates custom and AI scripting functionalities, allowing players to craft unique user interfaces and command non-player character (NPC) combatants within their creations. All player-created content within Portal will be accessible to the wider community via a dedicated section.

The mode also offers comprehensive game modifiers, giving players fine-grained control over gameplay rules. This includes the ability to set up scenarios like one-shot kills or restrict specific weapon usage, among many other possibilities. Notably, player progression and experience point (XP) accumulation remain fully active while playing in Portal mode, ensuring that custom experiences contribute to overall player advancement.

EA and DICE have indicated plans to introduce several additional maps to the game post-launch. However, at release, players will have access to nine diverse maps. These launch locations include iconic settings such as New York, Egypt, and Gibraltar, all featuring extensive destructible elements. While not every building on a map can be completely leveled, a significant number of structures are designed to be altered or demolished, dynamically reshaping the battlegrounds throughout the course of combat.

Battlefield 6 will also feature a dedicated single-player campaign. Fans will be pleased to see the return of the classic Battlefield soldier classes – Assault, Medic, Support, and Recon – each equipped with their distinctive class-specific weapons and gadgets.

Pre-orders for Battlefield 6 are currently available. The game`s open beta is scheduled to commence on August 7th and will continue through various intervals during the month. EA is set to officially release Battlefield 6 on October 10th for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
