It appears EA is once again venturing into the battle royale genre for the Battlefield series. At the recent event dedicated to Battlefield 6`s multiplayer component, the company strongly hinted at the return of the Firestorm mode from Battlefield V.
A teaser video showcased soldiers dispersing across a tropical landscape, with the camera panning back to reveal a massive firestorm descending from a mountain. Although the developers didn`t explicitly mention “battle royale” or Firestorm by name, the implication was clear. Regardless of what it is, fans will get their first taste through the Battlefield Labs testing program. EA`s event hosts referenced the name Firestorm in connection with the new mode but stopped short of definitive confirmation.
The original Firestorm mode in Battlefield V was integrated into the main game and only accessible to owners. A key question for the new iteration is whether it will be a standalone download or remain tied to a purchase of Battlefield 6.
Upon its 2018 release, many observed that the previous Firestorm felt like an underdeveloped concept that EA implemented primarily to capitalize on the then-growing popularity of battle royale modes.
Regarding the main game, Battlefield 6 is set to launch on October 10. The standard edition will be priced at $70, and the Phantom Edition at $100, differing from the previously rumored $80 price point. An open beta for Battlefield 6 is scheduled to begin in August.
