Battlefield 6 Appears to Be Skipping Last-Generation Consoles

During the recent reveal of Battlefield 6, indications suggest that the upcoming military shooter will not be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. According to Insider Gaming, the game`s wishlist page implies it will be a console exclusive for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, alongside a PC release.

A link on the official Battlefield 6 website directs to an Xbox product page specifically for Xbox Series X|S, omitting Xbox One. While the PlayStation Store page doesn`t explicitly state platform exclusivity, it`s reasonable to infer that if the game skips Xbox One, it will also likely forgo a PS4 release.

Electronic Arts has been approached for clarification regarding Battlefield 6`s platform availability, including whether there are plans for Nintendo Switch 2 support. Notably, Activision has previously expressed a commitment to eventually bringing Call of Duty to Nintendo Switch. However, the core Battlefield series has historically not been released on Nintendo consoles.

The previous installment, Battlefield 2042 (released in 2021), was available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and Xbox One. Given that the PS4 and Xbox One launched in 2013, it was anticipated that next-generation titles would eventually cease supporting them.

Development for Battlefield 6 is a collaborative effort by DICE, Motive, Ripple Effect, and Criterion, operating under the `Battlefield Studios` umbrella. The game`s campaign was featured in its announcement trailer on July 24, with a full reveal of its multiplayer mode expected from EA on July 31.

This article is based on publicly available information and industry observations at the time of writing. Official confirmation of platform availability is pending from Electronic Arts.
