Battlefield 6 Adjusts Assault Class Weapon Sling for Enhanced Identity

Battlefield Studios has revealed a significant modification to the Assault class`s Weapon Sling gadget in Battlefield 6. This change aims to prevent the gadget from “intruding upon class identity,” a core principle of the game`s design, according to the developers.

Battlefield 6 is re-introducing the series` classic class-based system, featuring unique gadgets for each role to distinguish them. A key feature of the Assault class was the Weapon Sling, which previously allowed players to carry two primary weapons, offering great adaptability in combat.

During initial Battlefield Labs playtests, Assault players utilized the Weapon Sling to equip any two primary weapons, leading to powerful combinations such as dual assault rifles or an assault rifle paired with a sniper rifle.

However, this versatile use of the Weapon Sling will no longer be possible. Battlefield Comms has announced that the gadget will now be restricted to Carbines, DMRs, and Shotguns as secondary weapons. Players will no longer be able to carry a second Assault Rifle, LMG, or Sniper Rifle.

Kevin `Totalfps` Johnson, Battlefield`s global community manager, provided further context for this decision in a Reddit post.

Johnson explained, “Class identity is crucial, and we, along with the players, felt that the earlier version of the Weapon Sling undermined these fundamental principles.”

This adjustment is the latest in a series of changes emerging from Battlefield Labs, where players are actively advocating for the re-implementation of class-restricted primary weapons. Currently, any class can use any weapon, but employing a class`s “signature” weapon type grants additional passive bonuses. To address player feedback, Battlefield Studios confirmed that the Battlefield 6 open beta will include playlists for both class-restricted and non-restricted weapon loadouts.

EA and Battlefield Studios recently showcased a comprehensive multiplayer reveal for Battlefield 6, emphasizing the franchise`s renowned destruction mechanics. They also unveiled the new Portal mode, a map creator, hinted at a battle royale mode, and announced an imminent open beta.

Battlefield 6 is set to release on October 10 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, bypassing the older Xbox One and PS4 consoles.
