Battlefield 2042 Sees Massive Player Increase Due to Battlefield 6 Anticipation

Battlefield 2042, despite its mixed reception upon release in 2021, is currently experiencing a significant surge in active players. This boost is directly linked to the upcoming launch of Battlefield 6.

According to SteamDB data, on August 24, Battlefield 2042 reached a peak of 75,000 concurrent players, marking its highest count since early 2023. For comparison, the game`s all-time peak was 107,376 players in October 2023, and at its initial launch in 2021, it drew around 105,000 players.

The primary reason for this recent increase is the “Road to Battlefield 6” update. This update not only reintroduced the fan-favorite Iwo Jima map in a reimagined format but also offered players exclusive rewards redeemable in Battlefield 6. This promotion runs until October 7, providing ample time to claim all bonuses.

It`s worth recalling that Battlefield 2042`s 2021 launch was marred by numerous technical issues and criticism for its lack of a single-player campaign. However, EA actively worked on improving the game, releasing regular updates and new seasonal content.

Currently, Battlefield 2042 is available at significant discounts: just $3 on Steam and under $5 on Xbox. PlayStation Plus Extra and EA Play subscribers (included with Game Pass Ultimate) can access the game for free.

Battlefield 6, on the other hand, is slated for release on October 10 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms. Initial impressions from the open beta have been largely positive. The new installment will feature a narrative campaign inspired by the “Civil War” movie and the “Lioness” TV series, and a battle royale mode will be added later. All major changes confirmed for launch will be present in the game.
