Astro Bot Just Received Five Free Levels And Some Long-Awaited Cameos

Team Asobi`s critically acclaimed platformer, Astro Bot, has just launched its newest free update. This update introduces five additional levels and brings new cameo appearances from other popular bot characters.

First revealed during Sony`s State of Play event in June 2025, the update unveils a brand new galaxy called the Vicious Void for players to explore. Four of the levels within this galaxy are titled Twin-Frog Trouble, Suck It Up, Handhold Havoc, and High Inflation. Team Asobi has chosen to keep the name of the fifth level a surprise. With the addition of these new stages, the total level count in Astro Bot now surpasses 90.

The developer hinted in a recent blog post that successfully completing this new galaxy “might lead to something really cool,” encouraging players to dive in and uncover the hidden surprises that await.

An Astro Bot update wouldn`t feel complete without new Special Bot cameo appearances, and several have now been confirmed for players to discover. One notable addition is the protagonist from Sucker Punch`s upcoming title, Ghost of Yotei (which was also featured during a special State of Play broadcast).

Players have also reported finding Cloud and Sephiroth from Square-Enix`s Final Fantasy 7. Cloud is even programmed to perform his signature Omnislash attack if you provoke him. Another fan-favorite character, 2B from NieR: Automata, is also among the new cameos. Many players had expressed curiosity as to why no Square-Enix characters, particularly from Final Fantasy, were present in Astro Bot when it first launched, so it`s a welcome sight to see some popular characters finally included.

In addition to the new levels, Sony also announced a new limited-edition Astro Bot DualSense controller during the June State of Play presentation. This version features a slightly different expression on Astro compared to a previous limited-edition controller. Pre-orders for this new controller are not yet available, but Sony stated it is planned for release later this year and that more details will be shared soon.

Earlier this year, in February, Astro Bot received an update that added support for the PlayStation 5 Pro and introduced a set of more challenging levels. Team Asobi`s platformer has garnered numerous Game of the Year awards, including top honors at The Game Awards in 2024 and the BAFTA Awards in 2025. GameSpot, for instance, recognized it as one of the 10 best games released in 2024.
