The highly anticipated survival sequel, Ark 2, has received a significantly pushed back release window, now vaguely scheduled for 2028. Developer Studio Wildcard initially unveiled the dino-taming, Soulslike survival game back in 2020, but the project has since been hit by multiple production delays.
The new 2028 timeframe was disclosed during publisher Snail Games` Investor Day event, held this week in Times Square. During the presentation, the studio also offered fans a fresh glimpse at the in-game model of the character Bob, who has appeared in previous Ark titles and is notably voiced by *The Boys* star, Karl Urban.
Future Plans for the Ark Universe
Studio Wildcard co-founder Jeremy Stieglitz outlined a two-year development roadmap for Ark: Survival Ascended (the current-generation remake). This path will culminate with the introduction of the *Legacy of Santiago* expansion, which is designed to integrate new gameplay mechanics that will also be featured in the forthcoming Ark 2.
Publisher Snail Games confirmed the commercial success of the remake, stating that Ark: Survival Ascended has sold 4 million units since its launch two years ago across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
Although Ark 2 was originally announced in 2020 with a planned 2023 release, it was subsequently postponed to 2024. After missing that revised date, the studio largely maintained silence regarding the game`s development progress. The project continues to feature the involvement of actor Vin Diesel, who not only stars in the game but also holds the unusual corporate title of `president of creative convergence` at Studio Wildcard.
In related media news, the *Ark* franchise saw its animated adaptation debut last year. The second installment of Ark: The Animated Series is currently slated to premiere in 2026.
