Apple Redesigns Supply Chain: Cupertino Eyes New OLED Display Suppliers

Apple is implementing a major overhaul of its supply chain, with a particular focus on OLED displays. The primary goal is to lessen dependence on Chinese suppliers, opting instead for partners considered more reliable and strategically stable.

Among the historically most important suppliers for Apple’s OLED panels is BOE, whose position, however, has significantly weakened in recent months. BOE’s Mianyang production line dedicated to Apple has seen a drastic drop in utilization, falling from over 80% in 2024 to less than 50% projected for early 2026.

Samsung Display and LG Display Become Key Suppliers for Apple’s OLED Panels

As an alternative to Chinese suppliers, Apple is intensifying collaborations with South Korean manufacturers such as Samsung Display and LG Display. These companies are set to become the primary suppliers for upcoming Apple devices, including future iPhone models like advanced Pro versions and the potential foldable iPhone.

The integration of OLED technology will not be limited to iPhones but will also extend to other products, marking a significant evolution for Apple’s lineup. New MacBook Pro and iPad mini models equipped with OLED screens are anticipated, promising notable improvements in visual quality, contrast, and energy efficiency.

Apple’s New Strategy and the Widespread Adoption of OLED Displays

This strategy is part of a broader plan for diversifying Apple’s production activities. In recent years, the company has already begun shifting part of its final assembly to countries like India and Vietnam, aiming to reduce geopolitical and logistical risks associated with China.

The aim is to build a more robust supply chain, capable of withstanding potential crises and ensuring production continuity. In an increasingly competitive and complex market, efficient supply management represents a fundamental strategic advantage.
