Apple Introduces “Emoji Game” on News+ Subscription Service

Apple News+, a subscription service renowned for its extensive collection of newspapers and magazines, has recently expanded its casual gaming offerings. In an unexpected move, a new “Emoji Game” has been launched, joining existing puzzle titles like Crossword Mini and Sudoku, much to the surprise of subscribers.

Apple officially confirmed that the “Emoji Game” is now accessible to Apple News+ subscribers in the United States and Canada. The puzzle currently supports English only. Gameplay revolves around players deciphering short clues and completing phrases by selecting and dragging appropriate emojis from a larger pool. For example, to solve a two-word phrase with the clue “departure,” players would combine the sunrise and clock emojis for “early,” followed by the car and keys emojis for “start.”

The Emoji Game is now available as part of an Apple News+ subscription, joining other puzzle titles like Crossword Mini and Quartiles.

“Emoji Game is the perfect addition to the Apple News+ suite of word and number puzzles, turning the emoji we use every day into a brainteaser that`s approachable and fun.”

This latest addition follows the success of “Quartiles,” a spelling game introduced last year on Apple News+ where users construct words from two-to-four letter tiles. Similar to Quartiles and Crossword Mini, the “Emoji Game” will offer fresh daily puzzles to engage players.

Apple News+ is available for a monthly fee of $13. It is also bundled within the Apple One Premier subscription, priced at $38 per month, which includes family sharing and access to several other Apple services such as Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade.

Looking ahead, Apple is preparing to release a new, unified “Apple Games” application later this year. This app is designed to streamline the gaming experience by centralizing all games, whether purchased individually or accessed through an Apple Arcade subscription. Notably, the “Emoji Game” will also be integrated into the “Apple Games” app upon its launch this fall.
