Amazon Exclusive Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Steelbook Edition Back in Stock

The highly sought-after Amazon-exclusive collectible version of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the “Mirror Edition,” is available again for PS5 and Xbox Series X. This special edition, which launched earlier in the month, contains a physical copy of the game (recently named Game of the Year at The Game Awards), a unique steelbook case, three collectible art cards, and an oversized display box featuring exclusive artwork.

Current Availability and Pricing

Physical copies for the PlayStation 5 have proven significantly harder to acquire than the Xbox versions. As of the current date, the $60 Amazon Mirror Edition is the sole PS5 physical version currently available for immediate purchase. Curiously, the standard PS5 edition, while listed as “temporarily out of stock” at Amazon, is priced at $60—$10 above its original $50 MSRP, matching the cost of the bonus-packed Mirror Edition. All other major retailers have completely sold out of the PS5 standard edition, and the GameStop-exclusive $70 Lumiere Edition reprint is also unavailable.

In contrast, the standard Xbox edition is readily available at several major retailers for $50. PC gamers can also find standard Steam keys discounted to $36.

Available Editions and Pricing Summary

  • Amazon-Exclusive Mirror Edition: PS5 – $60 | Xbox – $60
  • Standard Edition: PS5 – $60 (Out of stock at most retailers, higher than MSRP at Amazon) | Xbox – $50
  • GameStop-Exclusive Lumiere Edition: PS5 – $70 (Sold out)
  • Steam Keys (PC): Standard Edition – $36 | Digital Deluxe Edition – $43.19

Critical Success and Disqualification Controversy

Sandfall Interactive`s inaugural title has achieved unexpected critical success. It boasts impressive ratings, including a 92 Metacritic score and a 9.6/10 user rating. The game secured the coveted Game of the Year title at The Game Awards, in addition to being recognized with other major GOTY honors.

Despite its acclaim, a controversy arose following the game`s recent award sweep regarding Sandfall Interactive`s use of Generative AI during development of the turn-based RPG. Sandfall stated that while AI artwork is not present in the final release, “temporary placeholder textures” created by AI were inadvertently included in the initial April launch build. Consequently, The Indie Game Awards retroactively disqualified Clair Obscur for contravening organization rules prohibiting the use of Generative AI, leading to the forfeiture of two honors: Best Debut Indie Game and Game of the Year.
