Capcom launched a second fan-art competition in June for Street Fighter 6, offering artists the opportunity to have their submissions featured in the game`s `Here Comes A New Challenger` screen. While winners were selected for all 26 roster characters, the victorious artwork for newcomer Kimberly has ignited a dispute, with claims that it breaches the contest`s stringent policy against AI-generated images.
According to a report by Kotaku, X user `hoodratt20xx` compiled a detailed Google Doc highlighting alleged indicators of AI usage in the winning Kimberly artwork and other submissions. Separately, X user Galena_Bismon posted a comparable analysis.

Hoodratt20xx expressed their conviction in the document, stating their belief that “one of the winning entries for New Challengers 2 is partially or fully made with AI.” They emphasized the seriousness of their claims, adding, “I don’t make these accusations lightly and honestly would love to be proven wrong. I have gathered a list of evidence that I believe will shed some light on the matter and hopefully with this information you will take action in regards to this.”
The artist implicated, known on X as `lilithascends,` has reportedly deactivated all their social media profiles since the allegations surfaced. Capcom has yet to issue an official statement regarding the accusations.
This isn`t an isolated incident concerning AI use in video game art contests. Last June, The Pokemon Company disqualified several submissions in a Pokemon Trading Card Game art competition for violating rules, leading to the selection of new winners.
