2K Sports Reportedly Planning College Hoops Standalone Game, Not Tied To NBA 2K

It appears that EA will not be the sole company bringing college basketball back to video games. A recent report indicates that 2K Sports is engaging with universities regarding their inclusion in an upcoming title, which is planned as a standalone release independent of the popular NBA 2K franchise.

According to Sports Business Journal, 2K Sports has reportedly reached out to prominent programs such as Michigan State, Houston, and UCLA concerning their involvement in the College Hoops 2K revival. The game aims to feature approximately 100 teams, including women`s programs. Previously, 2K was reported to be considering college basketball DLC for the NBA 2K series, after which a potential standalone game would be evaluated.

Earlier this month, the official NBA 2K account on X hinted at a college basketball game being under development. This announcement came shortly after EA officially revealed its own new title in the genre, though its release window has yet to be disclosed.

It has been 16 years since any college basketball video game was released. College Hoops 2K8, launched in 2007, was the last entry in that series, while EA`s last title in the genre, NCAA Basketball 10, came out in 2009.

EA has achieved considerable success with its return to college football, as EA Sports College Football 25 ranked as the second best-selling game in the US last year. The company followed up on this success earlier this month with the release of EA Sports College Football 26.
