Wii U Achievements System Called Super Play In New Super Mario Bros. U For Wii U Via MiiVerse (Screenshots and Video). Online Social Networking Features Detailed

Wii U Achievements in New Super Mario Bros. U Screenshot

Die here in New Super Mario Bros. U and message pop-up from other MiiVerse players.

Achievements in New Super Mario Bros. U and Wii U will come by way of MiiVerse revealed Nintendo at E3 2012 during their Developer Discussion.

How the Achievements work will be specific to that individual game, at least in the case of New Super Mario Bros. U for Wii U. However Nintendo has confirmed that MiiVerse features are innate to the Wii U itself, and thus every game will feature MiiVerse features. That means its very plausible that this Achievement system I will detail here will be THE Achievement system built into all Wii U games.

The Wii U Achievement system works like this. While playing New Super Mario Bros. U, you can gain Achievements by completing certain conditions as you make your way through a level. Conditions explained include collecting all the Star Coins hidden on a level in one go, completing the level without being hit by a single enemy. If you manage one of these conditions, called a “Super Play” by the developers (tentative term I imagine), then you will be prompted to leave a message regarding your awesome performance, that will then be shared with other players online via the MiiVerse, as well as with your own friends who own the game. Nintendo was adamant that there are “A LOT” of different conditions, or Achievements, that players can strive for.

You can hear Nintendo discuss this in the E3 2012 Wii U Developer Discussion Video. Skip to around 6:30.

Messages from other players on the MiiVerse will then be spread throughout the actual game as you are playing, and revealed when you meet or fail to meet these Achievements; alerting you to the fact that these Achievements exist, or dropping hints as to what it may take to fulfill a Super Play.

It is easy to imagine this same Achievements system being applied to other games, in the same manner that it is applied to New Super Mario Bros. U. Will this be the bonafide Achievements system for the Wii U? Seems to me like it will be, but we’ll have to wait and see what else Nintendo reveals regarding an Achievements system for Wii U, and whether or not these games will have Badges or Emblems or Points or Trophies associated with earning these Super Play or Achievement conditions and how they are shared with your online friends and the world at large via MiiVerse.

You can get an idea of how this works in the screenshots above and below.

Dead Space 3 Gameplay Video Debut Co-Op Campaign EA E3 2012 Conference Demo Stage Footage. E3 2012 Trailer

Dead Space 3 Boss Gameplay Campaign Co-Op Screenshot

Boss gameplay of the campaign online co-op in Dead Space 3! Hell yeah!

Dead Space 3 opened up the Electronic Arts E3 2012 show with a bang! Just as you’d exepct, Visceral Games next-installment in the survival horror, spine-chilling action franchise was definitely a star of E3′s conference.

The biggest new addition to Dead Space 3 is, without a doubt, co-op campaign play! Hop with a friend online and make your way through the campaign as you team up to take on massive bosses. In this case, the first challenge is a gigantic drill, that you and your partner must battle with your weapons by freezing it, shooting it, and fighting off the Necromorph enemies that attack you from every side of the enclosed circular arena.

From there, the demo heads to the snowy outdoors in a beautiful environment with an absolutely drop-dead gorgeous sunrise/sunset where you must team up as a duo to take on a HUGE, insect like boss with pinchers on both sides and a weakspot in the middle.

It is here that some action elements come into play, as Isaac takes cover and rolls out of harms way. Although that part definitely looked extremely lacking compared to many other modern games.

Either way you shake it, Dead Space 3 is shaping up to be another hit in the outstanding horror series that players know and love!

Haven’t Played Demon’s Souls? Still Time, As Servers Stay On A Little Longer Announces Atlus

Demon's Souls Wallpaper

Awesome Demon’s Souls Wallpaper.

Atlus and From Software are KEEPING DEMON’S SOULS ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!!! *cute happy dance*

That’s correct, if you have yet to play From Software’s AAA Action RPG hit of devilish difficulty, then you are in luck. Atlus will be keeping the servers alive for “a while longer”, allowing those who have yet to play Demon’s Souls, or those who are still enjoying the game, to continue doing so for quite a while longer! Hopefully all the way into 2013, although an exact date for the PS3 adventure wasn’t given.

Originally Demon’s Souls and its online servers were set to be unplugged at the end of May, thankfully that is no longer the case! Additionally, actual updates to the game may still happen as long as interest in Demon’s Souls remains high!

“We’re incredibly excited to be able to announce that the Demon’s Souls online experience will persist for a while longer,” stated Tim Pivnicny, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at ATLUS. “While it originally seemed as though it would be unfeasible for us to continue to sustain the servers, a number of developments have made it possible for us to continue to invest in and support our fans as they have continued to invest in and support us and Demon’s Souls. For all the gamers who have yet to discover the game’s amazing online experience, we’re happy to say you can still log on and find out why Demon’s Souls is still regarded by many as one of the finest games of all time.”

Here’s a Demon’s Souls trailer!

Quote of the Day (Poll) – To Send A Letter Is A Good Way To Go Somewhere Without Moving Anything But Your Heart (May 29, 2012)

I Love You Letter

Electronic text does not convey the uniqueness of one’s own penmanship….

“To send a letter is a good way to go somewhere without moving anything but your heart.” By Phyllis Theroux.

This is an interesting quote. I’ve always maintained that seeing how someone writes to you gives you an entirely new and different look at their soul. Because people write, often-times, how they actually would say something in “real-life” if they could.

The problem comes from how things are vocalized, and typically when you vocalize something it doesn’t come out exactly the way you meant it to come out when thinking it in your head… or how it sounds or was meant to be said is lost once the thought exits your brain and comes out of your mouth. Thus I think writing someone offers a completely new perspective on that person… a look at the REAL person deep inside. This is even more true for shy people, or people who do not like or are not comfortable socializing.

Indeed, many of us know a shy person who says little in-person, but online or via text (or possibly when speaking to them in-private), you find out they have tons to say and will speak and talk just as much or more-so than others… and yet that story of their soul is trapped inside a being who cannot and will not vocalize these thoughts in front of others… Writing allows them to let those thoughts loose. And that is why people love social networking online, and new-age apps like Twitter, which allow the shyest person to become the most outgoing person with the most to say… because it is done online. In the privacy of their own bedroom, that person can speak to the world on a grand stage without ever feeling nervous, anxious-laden or embarrassed at how these words would come out in-person.

Is Letter Writing A Dead Art?

Do you believe letter-writing is a dead art? Because of computers?

Here’s the question though, “letter-writing” used to be something really special.

You could compare it to writing a letter to someone who is in prison. That letter means everything to them, it is that special and unique. Nowadays, via text, email and chat, computers and the Internet have all-but-replaced true letter writing.

Even so, we still get to read written text from that person regularly… but we do it so often that it doesn’t contain any special meeting in and of itself. Yet, we still ARE hearing from that person’s head, rather than their mouth… even if it is done in text form. Thus the words can and do still have weight to them… however the uniqueness of a person’s penmanship, and the art of pouring over a letter and writing it as good as possible, is lost in electronic text. But does that matter? Many would argue letter-writing has been so lost in the modern age that receiving a letter now holds more weight and is more special than it used to be, when penning a letter to your far-away penpal was the ONLY way to communicate with the outside world. Although someone from the “age before Facebook” who used to penpal regularly would probably disagree with the aforementioned argument.

Almost everyone in the modern age knows someone whom they’ve had deep text conversations with over their cell phones, and had a conversation that lead somewhere that would not have broken down that way if you were speaking to them in-person. Because speaking to them via text is different than in person… Thus, I think this is a really interesting question.

Do you think the act of letter writing has been killed by the Internet star? I’d be interested to hear your comments on this. :)

I Love U Text

Texting I Love U… It’s just not the same, is it? But do the words still hold weight? Many say yes…

Max Payne 3 Release Date Is May 15, 2012. Rockstar Online Pass Price and Details (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)

Max Payne 3 Wallpaper

Max Payne 3 Wallpaper showcasing the adult style of the long-awaited third game in the series.

Max Payne 3 will be released on May 15, 2012 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Developed by Rockstar Games, it is the long-awaited third entry in the popular last-generation Max Payne series of third-person action adventure shooter games.

A dramatic, cinematic series, the original Max Payne made its debut a few years following the infinitely popular first Matrix film (2001, Matrix was released in 1999) and capitalized on that films success by being the first videogame to offer a slow-motion shooting mechanic, wherein the player could slow down time. Literally ripped straight from The Matrix and called the “Bullet Time” mechanic (amazing there wasn’t a lawsuit!), this allowed players to more easily dodge incoming gunfire from enemies or alternatively make it easier to hit them with your own shots.

Naturally “Bullet Time” returns in Max Payne 3, as you can see in this epic Max Payne 3 Bullet Time trailer.

However you can use a program like Windows Movie Maker to string several installments together into one video.
