DuckTales Remastered Remakes 8bit NES Classic. Hits Xbox Live Arcade, PSN, and WiiU eShop This Summer

Ducktales Remastered Wallpaper

Soo awesome!

DuckTales Remastered remakes the 8bit NES classic that kids of the 80s know and love! This game (released in 1989) was one of my all-time favorite NES games when I was a kid, and set on the shelf next to the likes of TaleSpin and Chip N’ Dale Rescue Rangers, all great NES platformer games!

Capcom announced at PAX East 2013 that they are completely remaking this 8bit masterpiece for release this Summer on Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA), PlayStation Network (PSN) and WiiU eShop!

DuckTales Remastered seeks to take the levels and layout of the original game, but will greatly expand and update them to create essentially an all-new title in the spirit of the original. The graphics have been completely upgraded to modern-day standards, beautifully recreated with luscious hand-drawn visuals, backgrounds and animated sprites, which re-invisions the look of the 8bit classic.

In addition, and a HUGE, HUGE bullet point, Disney and Capcom have brought back the ENTIRE VOICE CAST of the original DuckTales cartoon series from 1987 (it ran until 1990) including the 94-year-old Alan Young, voice of Scrooge McDuck! He, in addition to everyone else, has recorded all-new material for all of the DuckTales characters, significantly enhancing the game and giving it the authentic feel that fans of both the voiceless 8bit original NES platformer, and the 80s cartoon series, will love and appreciate!

Man this takes me back!

Like in the original game, players will take control of Scrooge McDuck himself and his unstoppable pogostick (used to jump on enemies and reach higher areas) as you explore the various themed worlds of the game and collect hidden treasures in order to become the world’s richest duck… This includes some deviously hidden secrets.

Although my memory of the game is very vague, I can recall unlocking the secret to an island that rises up from the sea (or something) and my young mind being absolutely blown. Just like sinking into the quicksand in Super Mario Bros. 2 to appear on the otherside of the wall, the secrets in DuckTales were plentiful and extremely mysterious, really stretching the young mind to new levels of wonder. Whether this game will still have that effect on me or not is doubtful, but I haven’t played the game since the late 80s or early 90s, so it will be a REAL treat to go back to it! In the meantime I may just have to track down a copy of the original NES cartridge to play on my NES2, and bust out some nostalgia!

Capcom promises that the renewed voicework from the talent behind the animated series will bring the in-game characters sparkling to life with “charm and wit”. Additionally, all of the classic melodies, songs and music from the original 8bit NES game and the animated series have been given a modern twist and remixed to great effect, further updating this new version.

A tutorial level has been added to acquant new fans to the iconic Pogo Jump and Cane Swing that form the basis of the gameplay in this side-scrolling 2D platformer, and an additional and all-new “Scrooge McDuck’s Museum” will track all of your stats that you can compare with the world in global leaderboards. There, of course, will also be new Achievements and Trophies to unlock. Hopefully there will be more stuff to unlock as well…

DuckTales Remastered is being developed by acclaimed developer WayForward Technologies, who are well known for creating hit downloadable titles like LIT, Mighty Switch Force, Shantae: Risky’s Revenge, BloodRayne: Betrayal, Double Dragon Neon and retail hits for DS/3DS/Wii/PS Vita like Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Aliens: Infestation and Silent Hill: Book of Memories. So the game is in good hands!

It’s worth noting that two additional DuckTales games were developed after the original 1989 NES title. They include DuckTales 2, released for NES and Game Boy in 1993 (developed by Capcom and a direct-sequel), and DuckTales: The Quest For Gold released for PC and developed by Incredible Technologies in 1990. If this game does well enough we just may see the re-release of DuckTales 2 as well, which would be great. Hopefully from there they can remake or re-release other Disney hits like Chip N’ Dale, Darkwing Duck and TaleSpin! :D

Here is an interview that gives a few more details on DuckTales Remastered.

I remember seeing an 8bit God of War game… I wonder if other people have taken the above games and created 8bit versions of them by now? If not, THEY SHOULD!

And here is Bit of War“, the NES 8bit God of War fan-created game!

Track and Field For Real 8bit NES Olympic Race Wallpaper

Hahahaha, run lil man run!

Track & Field 8bit NES for real olympic race wallpaper artwork! Look at that lil man run!

I never really played these games as a kid, but I do recall this one girl I used to like who was 8 years old and lived down the street. Her name was “Carolina” and she owned this game along with the Power Pad for NES. Of course, I always played the cooler games like Excitebike, Batman or Contra. Now I feel like I missed out!

I saw a funny comment with a guy saying him and his friends never actually stepped on that mat to play, they simply pounded their fists into it to make the lil olympian run!

If you never played these games, they were (in many ways) the precursor to the Dance Dance Revolution series and it’s mat-based Dance/Music/Rhythm gameplay.

Here’s a video of Track & Field NES gameplay in action.

WatchMePlayGames: The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Part 1 Let’s Play

Link's Awakening Wallpaper Artwork

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening was so unique, and had a fun style!

WatchMePlay The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX for Game Boy Color on my 3DS, as I dive into Link’s finest hour for a handheld system in what many regard as one of the greatest portable games of all time.

WatchMePlay – The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Part 1

And it’s hard to argue with that statement, due to the how original and unique Link’s Awakening still is some 15 years following its debut in 1993 in a humble, 8bit, black-and-white adventure for the original Game Boy. That game would go on to win huge critical acclaim, gain a huge cult following, become one of the best-selling Game Boy games of all time and enter the hearts of many a Game Boy fan.

There are still plenty of Zelda fans and Nintendo gamers who consider Link’s Awakening to be the best Zelda game in the series. Although that game has extremely stiff competition these days, as many, many, many newer Zelda titles have wrestled with Link’s Awakening for the crown; and many other oddball titles in the series exist, such as the N64′s Majora’s Mask, and the little-known Game Boy Advance title The Minish Cap, as well as dueling, double handheld entries released by Capcom for the Game Boy Color called The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons & Ages.

In addition, Link has gone on many new portable adventures, including two on the regular DS, known as The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass & The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks.

Either way you shake it though, none of those games have the majesty and majestic nature of Link’s first portable adventure. From the charming graphics, oddball villagers, entrancing music, complex dungeons, crafty puzzles, superb gameplay, incrediblely innovative storyline and fully realized world, few games can touch Link’s Awakening in sheer incomparable imaginality. IF you haven’t played the game do yourself a favor and DO IT.

It was re-released for the Game Boy Color in 1998 with an additional colorized dungeon, all-new colored visuals, and hidden photos to discover (they were printable on the black & white Game Boy Printer), and was re-released for 3DS via the eShop (which is the version I’m playing) on June 7th 2011.

8-Bit Videogame Stickynote Art (GameSpot) for GDC 2012

8bit Stickynote videogame wall

Sticky notes and videogames for the win!

The Game Developers Conference 2012 has kicked off!

If you enjoy this article and video, please like it at the top of the website and share it on Facebook and Twitter, I’d greatly appreciate it! And leave a comment if you’re so inclined. :)

In order to celebrate, the folks at GameSpot.com put together a very cool collage on a wall, full of 8-bit videogame goodness… made entirely of sticky notes! There’s Link from Zelda, White Mage from Final Fantasy I, Nintendo’s Donkey Kong and even Mario’s Birdo!

The final product is a really cool site to behold, and it’s inspiring to see what people can do with such an everyday object as Sticky Notes.

I wonder how many sticky notes they really needed to build it! One can only imagine! (The final #: 6,216!)

This video shows them building the art piece!
