In the craziest mix of marketing ever seen, the Angry Birds franchise has teamed up with the NFL to create an all-new Angry Birds title that ties in with the team mascot of the Philadelphia Eagles Football team!
Here is the awesome, absolutely hilarious Angry Birds: The Mighty Philadelphia Eagle announcement teaser:
All kinds of crazy cross-promotion will ensue, for example, this might take place at the Lincoln Financial Field Stadium::
“For instance, according to the team, if defensive lineman Trent Cole sacks New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning, the stadium’s video board will dump the traditional sack animation for a new one–an animation in which Angry Birds character “Big Brother Bird” Terence knocks Manning over. In short, for Angry Bird-addicted football fans, there will be no escaping your thumb-hurting vice this fall.”
Apparently this crazy promotion came not from developer Rovio, but from the Philly Eagles football players themselves, who were so obsessed with playing the beloved mobile Angry Birds hit games, that they decided to pursue Rovio and ask them about doing a joint project. And that happened one year ago! It took this long for all the redtape to be cleared, papers signed, and contracts written up, and now we will get an official NFL-licensed Angry Birds title!
This will be the first time that a Sports franchise has teamed up with the Angry Birds license. Will it be the last? How many bird-related sports teams can you thin of? NBA’s Atlanta Hawks, the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons, NHL’s Anaheim Ducks, or Toronto’s Blue Jays. I sense more sports-themed Angry Birds games after this one is an inevitable success!
The game will be released this Fall 2012.
