A pic of the full 12-Game Reliquary Collection boxset! Would you pay $500 for this? I WOULD!

The Reliquary Collection Kickstarter Project… Imagine ancient boardgames from 5000 B.C. to 700 A.D. modernized and streamlined for play by a new generation in 2012! That is what you get with this awesome Kickstarter Project called “The Reliquary Collection”. The ancient boardgames are taken from all over the world, from ancient Sumer to ancient Egypt, China, Korea and more. Thus, this project is as much an awesome gaming history lesson than anything else.

The Reliquary Collection reproduces these ancient boardgames using the highest quality materials and presenting them in a super unique format… that of suede leather pouches laser-etched with the gameboard, and pieces made of the highest materials like natural marble playing pieces or two-sided dice made of solid wood called “lots”. Other features include extremely durable composite paper rulebooks laced onto the satin draw-string and a drawstring that allows the game pieces to be folded into the string-closed pouch for easy carrying, protection and portability.

Here is an overview of the Reliquary Collection and what it contains.

12 ancient boardgames are included in the Reliquary Collection with the game’s available both individually or in sets of 6 Games or 12 Games. You can even get Collector’s Editions which include all of the game’s and the pieces needed to play them in this unique format, all wrapped in a beautifully packaged, numbered and dated, custom engraved wooden box with a leather top, perfect for storing and displaying an entire 6 or 12 Game Set.

The Reliquary Collection Marble Black & White Pieces

…. The beautiful pieces to play each of these games are made of marble or wood, as you can see here sitting on a leather gameboard.

Because these games are all ancient, some of the rules and variations are uniquely developed by Bibelot Games who is behind this Kickstarter Project (it will be their first product). That means that, even if you have played these games before, you will still want to check out The Reliquary Collection. Best of all, Backing the Reliquary Collection Kickstarter Project with only $5 will grant you digital versions (via PDF) of every game board along with the rules so that you can still play the games and try them out. Just without having such a fancy version.

One of the boardgames, I should mention, has never even been created as a fully functional game, and the Reliquary Collection will be the first time that the game has been made functional, with Bibelot Games speaking to both archeologists and historians, as well as students of ancient boardgames, to develop what they find to be the most likely way that the game was played, in fully-functional form. Did I mention that The Reliquary Collection has been a project 10 years in the making?!

If you want to get in on The Reliquary Collection Ancient Boardgame Kickstarter Project, be sure to act fast and donate now in order to secure a reward and back the project while there is still time! The Project only has 13 days remaining, with only $500 dollars more to go before the project reaches its goal of $16,000. Right now the project has 169 total Backers. The way Kickstarter works, the project will not be fully funded until the goal is reached, and if it doesn’t get funded then no money will change hands. However it is EXTREMELY likely that The Reliquary Collection will surpass it’s funding goal!

Reliquary Collection Game Pieces

Beautiful marble pieces to play the Reliquary Collection boardgames with.

Even cooler than that, is the fact that more Backers mean that new “Achievements” get unlocked, and these Achievements that Bibelot games have added to this offline project (“Achievements” being a videogame term for certain accomplishments that unlock awards in Xbox 360 videogames, and other videogames of all types on other platforms like PlayStation 3 and Steam on PC) will give everyone new features that will be added to your package to make it even better than it was before that Achievement was earned. In this way, people are further encouraged to help each other out by spreading the word and encouraging friends and family to back the project, in order to earn the Achievements for everyone. It’s a win-win situation!

Achievement rewards include:
* A Velvet Bag: To make it that much snazzier to carry around the games and pieces.
* Better Wood: Improved Cherry Wood added for lots and dice.
* Free Custom Text: Added to each and every game pouch (up to three lines) to make them truly your own.
* Free game logo keychain.
* Free mini-scroll with history and info for each and every game.

The Reliquary Collection Achievements

A description of the Achievements system for the Reliquary Collection and what each entails.

Here is how these Achievements are unlocked and what they are named:
* The Velvet Bag Achievement
A nice velvet storage bag, making it easier and prettier to lug your game pieces wherever you go. Large enough to hold the 56 Game Pieces Set.
Unlocked: Reach 50 Backers at the Game Piece Level. Every Backer will get this added to their purchase upon unlocking.

The Better Wood Achievement
Visitors to the website got to vote in a poll for what quality of improved wood they wanted for this Achievement: Oak, Walnut or Cherry Wood. Cherry Wood won the poll, so when this Achievement is unlocked each of the lots and dice will be made with the improved Cherry Wood. Every Backer will get this added to their purchase upon unlocking.
Unlock: Reaching 200 total Backers for the entire Reliquary Collection Kickstarter Project.

The Custom Pouch Achievement
Add custom laser-etched text to each and every one of your gameboard pouches in order to add an amazing personal touch! These will be laser-etched just like the gameboards themselves, and you get three lines (24 characters on each line) of text with which to customize your pouches. Every Backer will get this added to their purchase upon unlocking.
Unlock: Reach $32,000 dollars of funding for the Reliquary Collection Project.

The Keychain Achievement
Unlock this Achievement to earn a very cool add-on: 12 keychains made of the same luxurious suede leather as the game pouches, that feature a split ring attached via antique brass frommet. The keychains are shaped like a raindrop with The Reliquary Collection logo and the words “KICKoff 2012″ printed on the reverse. Every Backer will get these added to their purchase upon unlocking.
Unlock: Reach 50 total Backers for a single level (total includes U.S. and international tiers).

The Mini-Scroll Achievement
This amazing Achievement adds a mini scroll imprinted by laser with a detailed history of the game along with details of the era and region that the game was played in. These will be included with each game (along with the rules) and created on parchment paper that is secured via a hematite loop to the game pouch. The scrolls measure 4″ x 12″ when unrolled. Every Backer will get these added to their purchase upon unlocking.
Unlock: Claim all 72 Limited Edition Reliquary Collection sets (both custom and full, U.S. and international)

The Super Secret Achievement
This one is mysterious and not known!
Unlock: Earn each and every Achievement and everyone will unlock this super secret Achievement! What could it be?

Reliquary Collection Coins Add-On

Unlock the Wood Achievement for this very cool Coin Set to be added to each purchase!

Additionally, “Add-Ons” are also being created. For example, if you add $30 ($40 International) to any tier above $20, you’ll earn yourself an additional 88 Game Piece Set along with your Backer Pledge purchase. Or you can pay $30 and add a half-hour Skype video call with the developers to your purchase.

More add-ons are promised as this Kickstarter Project rolls towards its June 4, 2012 deadline, with new add-ons being added each time a new Achievement is unlocked! Unlocking the “Better Wood Achievement” will give us the “Coins Add-ON”. This allows you to add $30 additional dollars to any pledge above $10, to secure 13 unique Coins, each of them laser-etched with the game logos for all 12 games on one side and their corresponding Game Boards on the other side. As well as a 13th Coin that features the Reliquary Collection Set logo and Bibelot logo on corresponding sides. All the Coins will be etched in beautiful Cherry Wood and come in their own Velvet Bag!

Is this not the freakin’ coolest Kickstarter Project you’ve seen yet? The Achievements system is a REALLY cool idea. I bet many other Kickstarter Projects will adopt the idea.

It’s so expensive, but I really hope I can come up with some money in the next fourteen days to be able to afford the six-game set or the full collection! This would make such an amazingly awesome set to have! So please head over to the Reliquary Collection Kickstarter Project and support these guys in their endeavor!

Last but not least, here is The History of the Reliquary Collection, a project 10 years in the making spanning every continent!
