Oh and “Zwei” is a codename and working title, so the name of the game could change.
Mikami himself will be fully involved in the game’s development and is serving as Executive Director. The reason for choosing survival horror was in order to stay inline with what gamers expect from a Mikami-developed game, so says the man himself.
Zwei has actually been in the works for a while, as the game’s basic settings and storyline, exposition, groundwork, etc. was layed as far back as 2010. The name “Zwei” comes from the German language, where it means “two”. What that has to do with the game is anyone’s guess at this point, Mikami said it wasn’t necessarily a hint as to what the game would entail… although it must have some significance.
The game will most likely be released sometime in 2013, platforms have yet to be announced. But you can probably expect Xbox 360, PS3 and whatever else, Wii U possibly or other platforms like PC, Mac, or PS Vita. And/or PS4 (codenamed “Orbus”) and Xbox 720 (codenamed “Durango”) which may be out by the time this game hits.
Mikami himself is most famous for Resident Evil, but he also created the Devil May Cry franchise, and worked on Vanquish and Shadows of the Damned more recently, neither of which was a big hit.
You can see the game’s first screenshots above… although these are “target” screenshots only representative of the feel and tone that Mikami is expecting to be seen in the game.
Here is a video of Shadows of the Damned, a third-person action horror game released on Xbox 360 and PS3 last June 2011. It was co-developed by Suda 51 and Grasshopper. It’s a Mature videogame so expect scantily clad women and lots of cursing and killing from the trailer.
And here is a trailer of Vanquish, a sci-fi third-person shooter released in 2010 for Xbox 360 and PS3 to much critical acclaim, but poor sales. Sega published and Platinum Games developed.
